Damien Echols is one of the West Memphis Three, along with Jessie Miskelley and Jason Baldwin. they were falsely imprisoned for 18 years when they were only 16, 17 and 18, for the murder of three 8 year old boys. The conviction was based on a coerced false confession, the fact they listed to heavy metal, wearing black clothing and was classed as a satanistic ritual amongst other pointless things, and no actual physical evidence at all. They were released in august 2011, in a plea deal that meant the state would never have to pay them compensation and to protect itself and its terrible police work.
